This book, by Jung Chang, is one of those ones that will haunt me for ages. It's an incredible, first-hand look at communist China from someone who grew up there under Mao. Being Canadian and from such a spoiled, consumer-driven generation -- one that assumes freedom is a given and flaunts that at every opportunity -- it always shocks me when I delve into what it's like to not be free, to not have opportunities, to not be able to speak your mind. It's a long one and it can be a bit tedious but I highly recommend ti.
